This software is said to work with MFJ TNC's, but I'm not sure which version. I think you could contact them for advice, then try the trial version to see if it works with your hardware.

You could also try the AGWPE suite of programs from SV2AGW.He has a very nice terminal program for packet, as well as his 'packet engine' to manage your TNC(s).

I used to have the Multicomm software for this TNC but it didn't survive a couple moves. It was on a floppy disk anyway, and who has a drive to read those today?
There's a link for downloading a version of the program Skyrider, which was Multicomm before Multicomm existed.

This website might have some help:

t looks like you can still buy MFJ-1289W from several sources, too.

The MFJ-1278 is based on the original TNC2 design, but it added extra features that no longer made it
an exact TNC-2 compatible because the serial port settings, modem port settings, and radio port settings
were controlled in firmware opposed to hard set dip switches.
These are just the electrical changes that deviated the unit away from the original TAPR TNC-2 design.

Numerous Serial Terminal programs have been available, since the early microcomputer hobby days in 1970s/early 1980s.

PuTTY is a current popular shareware package (Windows, Linux) that works with direct attached serial (RS-232) ports as well as Network (TCP/IP) connections
via Telnet and SSH to other host computers, servers, routers, and remotely managed network appliances.

Hilgraeve Inc., a privately held software company based just south of Detroit in Monroe, Michigan, has been a long-time leader in
providing data communications software and services. Hilgraeve's first products were for the Heathkit / Zenith microcomputers in the 1970s.

Hilgraeve's HyperTerminal was included with Microsoft Windows until WinXP

PACKET MONITOR is a recent software offerin by N3FJP (Beta)
