I am about to buy an Icom 5100 at the Hamvention and wanted to get registered ahead of time. I'm starting to have second thoughts about this after trying to follow the directions on getting registered with Dstar.

I went to the link at my local Dstar repeater site and it gave me a page not found for the Dstar registration.

    which leads to

which doesn't tell me much, but that's where it leads to the page not found when I click on registration. Wy have the link to register if it doesn't work?

A post in our FB group came back with a message from the president to contact so and so for all Dstar questions.

I can register on the national site:

but it states: "Please register here IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A LOCAL D-STAR GATEWAY in your area that you can register with. "

I don't know at this time if we have a gateway or not, but I was told that we have both Dstar and DMR (maybe on different repeaters)

If I register at the main Dstar site instead of through my repeater, do I lose any functionality with my local repeater if it does have a gateway? I would think that this system would be flexible enough to allow you to move to another place and still be able to use Dstar with other repeaters.

And if I have any problems with registration, is there a path to getting it fixed by contacting a real person? Everything so far seems to be automated, and this is seeming to be getting much more complicated than it needs to be. So much that I'm thinking of just buying a dual-band FM rig and giving up on digital altogether since it seems to be somewhat disorganized at this point in time.

formerly KJ3I but I can't find a place to change to my new call sign here, so I'm posting under that account

Upon the suggestion of a local ham, I registered at the national site. I would like to know how you might change your address or call sign at a later time though.
