N5BOC makes both simplex and duplex radio boards for hotspots. Someone may be making similar products of quality, but I haven't seen them.

Transmissions from the board are cleaner on the spectroscope than Kenwood, Icom and Yaesu radios.

They work perfectly well with MMDVM, Pi-Star, or QnetGateway.

I just ordered a DMRspot https://dmrspot.27labs.com/and he uses those boards. N5BOC has "improved the simplex board and has made a design change that improves the performance of the internal antenna." DMRspot claims that the new antenna is almost as good as the old board with and external antenna attached.

I have an older simplex board, and I actually like the 'limited' range of the internal antenna. It is good enough to run in the car, where I really don't need it to reach more than about 6 feet.

I've thought about adding an external antenna to an N5BOC board. The duplex board has two external antennas, and also works well on 2m (though it is not spec'ed for it).
