    Stan,

    Take a look at the icom AH4 tuner. Tuning is painless and takes just a second and one button press on the IC7000. I use an AH4 on my 160m loop and I tune all the bands with it. You can mount it outside to further eliminate clutter in your bedroom shack. Plus when you get to move back to the basement you can use the IC7000 and AH4 for a sweet mobile set-up!

    Youe a lucky man! my wife is a ham and radios in the bedrooom is a major no no!

    Yes, a Moxon square is great. Small footprint (smaller than a dipole) and can be made really lightweight. I built a simple portable one, just some wires and PVC tube for casual operations on 17m. On vertical it was not high enough (not far enough from ground and buildings), but on "almost horizontal" polarization it really shines.

    Keep the TS 830 and decorate it with doilies and stuff.
