Howard Bentley was from West Texas and moved back out there from North Texas before his passing. I had always wanted to be a ham so one day I saw his antenna farm and went upon his porch and rung the bell, Introduced myself and said I was not licensed but wanted to learn about Amateur Radio. He helped so much I still cannot believe it. He gave me boat anchors and sold me some nice gear for pennies on the dollar, with the promise to never sell the items, that I still have. We put up a full size 80 meter beam in his back yard that was much larger than his house ,with help of others when I could stay on a tower all day! My first rig an Ramsey 2M kit put it together and day to get on the air I had up a horizontal wire antenna up for it and when he came over to help me he says "ya might want to make it vertical". I miss Howard and must thank him for so much ham time and wisdom he gave me. 73 Howard
