Given the screen shot above, if you want to have the QSO on 50.280, then you set your VFO to 50.280 and check the box that is labeled "Tx CQ 280". What this does is send your CQ on the calling frequency of 50.260 with 280 as part of the message. i.e. "CQ 280 KG5THG EM02". This tells anyone who answers that the QSO will take place on 50.280. If you watch your radio, you will notice you are switching between 50.260 for the CQ and listening for responses on 50.280. Once someone responds, you will remain on 50.280 until the QSO completes.

You should also check "auto Seq" (if you have used ft8, jt65, etc... it works the same), set F tol (frequency tolerance) to 200, and set the T/R s (duration of the transmit/receive sequence) to 15 seconds. Those are standard values most people use.

If your on pingjockey then you can work with people you want to talk to and change the T/R to a longer sequence depending on the distance and conditions for the contact. Use contest mode, etc... There are a great bunch of guys on pingjockey.

I would however, update to the current version of the wsjt-x software version 1.9.1 as soon as possible. It has a number of changes and also gives you access to contest mode (grid exchange only) which is used by grid expeditions, etc... There are several grid expeditions coming up this weekend to dn20, dm70, etc...
