Dave I have noticed you are fond of generously using the term " TROLL " ......

.....I'm quite sure that your intended use is one of negative connotation directed to have a derogatory reflection on the Amateur in question. I can think of few insults more meaningful to a Radio Amateur than an assimilation to computers or the internet.

Very close ORV. But I am certain you must have heard the term "TROLL", used to describe, someone who makes comments that do not contribute to the topic at hand. But are made for the sole purpose of stirring up the argument, for their own personal pleasure. In plain terms, they enjoy the arguments, so they post nonsense to keep the argument alive. I guess you could use the word, "Agitator", as a synonym of sorts.

I did not make up the term "TROLL". I started using it as hundreds of others have used it within these forums. From how they've used it, I believe it's meaning is as I have described it above. If my interpretation of the word's usage in this forum is incorrect, I would appreciate a correction from the word's first users.

    Take care ORV. 73 [IMG]

    NØKLU,
Is this another newbie whining ,and crying session to do away with slide rules, because they are out of date and too hard ? I would think with the almost total disregard for any form of technical expertise, the new Amateurs would find no practical use for any type of calculator. I was not aware of any movement to abolish slide rules, as a matter of fact I still have several of mine, my large CEI rule, several medium rules, even still  on occasion use  my circular rule, which was the first rule I owned back in 1954 and still resides here in the top desk drawer. True the hand calculator is a handy instrument, but you can count on the slide rule to be functional and not have to worry about dead batteries. You can't rely on taking your solar powered 4 function Radio Shack calculator out side in the sun for all your mathmatical solutions.

    DAV,
Dave I believe you are correct in the use of the term, or at least that is the definition that I have been offered. I am by no means computer literate, to me it is merely another tool or piece of equipment that resides in the Ham shack. My operational savy comes from limited experience and observation, which by the way would surely force me to restrict my kids from exposure. The Internet seems to be the biggest gathering of thieves, liars and rascals in one place since AliBabba discovered the cave.
The synonym " Agitator " is an interesting variance to the meaning of troll, sort of like all those NCI and no code people who post nonsense on this topic simply to keep it alive when they offer little else as a contribution.
[IMG] Hope you are having a pleasant holiday season.....73,   ORV

You want something others have but you are unwilling to earn it. With a minimal amount of effort, you could be on the low bands in a few weeks. The choice is yours and yours alone.

Good golly cousin Wally. Aren't you special. I've done all that and more with CB and rx antennas on the rail road band. Ever have the covers off any rigs? Ever done any troubleshooting and repair, any modifications? Ever do any surface mount work, where the part is so small you have to put it on a piece of white paper just to see it. HTs and hand held scanners are a real blast to work on. Done any of that? Real Ham?

    For those who need it:
    A FREE download from CNet.com

    ieSpell 2.0.1

    ieSpell 2.0.1
    Publisher's Description

ieSpell is a free Internet Explorer browser extension that spell-checks text input boxes on a Web page. It should come in particularly handy for users who do a lot of Web-based text entry (e.g., Web mail, forums, blogs, diaries). Even if your Web application already includes spell-checking functionality, this utility is faster than a server-side solution. Plus, you get to store and use your personal word list across all your applications instead of maintaining separate ones on each application.
Note: The program installs as a new button in the IE toolbar (as well as a new menu item under Tools). After filling in a form, click the ieSpell button and it pops up a dialog similar to the Microsoft Word spell check.

    Download.com Review
Spell-checking options in word processing and e-mail programs save those who never won a spelling bee from looking like high school drop-outs. ieSpell adds a spelling checker to Microsoft Internet Explorer, providing a safety net for participants in interactive Web boards and people who use Web-based e-mail. We found the tool to be unobtrusive, convenient, accurate, and fast. When you want to check your spelling, activate the program from the Tools menu, the toolbar button, or by using the right-click menu. The intuitive interface resembles any other spelling checker out there, with options to add words to its dictionary and to ignore URLs and e-mail addresses. It includes a direct link to the online Merriam Webster dictionary, giving you the opportunity to expand your vocabulary as you work. Currently, ieSpell only works with the English language (but does include common U.S., Canadian, and UK dictionaries) and is only built for Internet Explorer. While we would like it to check our spelling as we type and fix punctuation errors, we're happy that it detected all of our misspelled words and offered spelling suggestions.

    Hi Mike:

    This is great!

Sadly, those that need a spell checker the most do not realize that they need it. Even worse, there are those that do not recognize a dictionary definition as a proper definition. Thanks for the post.

Thank you, I just found the program today, I knew I needed it but had a time finding something like it, small in size, simple to use, and as it turned out FREE! So I decided to share it with the rest here. and it works great! as I did several spelling errors to check, and it caught them.

I remember you now. You were that obnoxious, low IQ, big bully in school that kept pushing the smaller kids around, demanding that your Dad could beat up everyone elses Dad.

Then my Dad kicked your Dad all over the schoolyard, and you still didn't get it. You continued saying that your Dad could beat up everyone elses Dad.

I see you haven't changed a bit. Keep helping.

Seems to me that if they did that, they would be in violation of the law in regards to FCC type acceptance.

yes i have. i have ran a shop out here for four years. and yes, i probably know a lot more than you about SMT technology . like i stated in the post that you responded to, i know a lot more than i let on. i still own over 3500.00 in equipment. yes i have done plenty of work on ht's and have many covers of of rigs. do you know a man by the name of talkie? of course not. talkie was royce's head technician. i worked along side with talkie and have learned many things when he had his own shop open.you see talkie is from japan, on of japans most intelligent. japan sent him over to oversee and help troubleshoot the rigs. the man designed boards you can only dream of designing. and yes I'm a real ham. the way you spout your mouth and insinuate makes me think that your not. like i stated before i know a lot more than i let on. no need to explain my self to you i think this pissing match is over, ignorance must be bliss [IMG]

i dont think so at all. its just how you look at it. what i ment to say is ,if they studied, and passed thier test then they would be in the 21st century.but your right if they were to get with the program at the level they are at now then ya, they would be in violation. [IMG]
