I have an Alpha amp for HF with several spare 3CX400A7 tubes. It would be nice to build a VHF/UHF amp with those extra tubes. It would go great with the 17b2's and 26b2's stuck in the attic.
Some operators get excited achieving WAS on HF bands. I'd like to try it on VHF/UHF.

I use a 40 year old Lunar Electronics 2m10-150p. Works great!

Thats more like it. 160w isnt much for people with ts2000. I want over 200 before i even think about a amplifier.

Could it be driven with less or does the design need 100watts?

I have the Mirage b-2516-G and have been happy with it on SSB and FM, thinking about AM though, would I use it in the SSB setting or the FM setting? My gut says SSB since SSB is a derivative of AM but figured I would ask since I am yet to find any clear instruction online for using these amps other than in SSB or FM.

Fm, the AM carrier will keep the transistors open anyway.
Foor feel good you can use SSB with bias.
