In Kiev, in the evening, we can hear at the usual car receiver one Ukrainian station, Moldovan, French, two Romanian and Russian, and some distant and weak .

The last of the megapower national AMs in The Netherlands went dark on new year's day after a loop requesting listeners to switch to DAB or online streaming. Barely a week later, the 600' center-fed towers for 747 and 1008 were imploded. These were once impressive 600kW signals.

Interestingly, the dozen or so national, regional, and local frequencies that were vacated are now licensed to hobby broadcasters who are allowed 100W on all frequencies except 1485 which has a limit of 1W.

Moronic "Talk Radio" will probably keep AM BC going in N. America for quite a few more years considering that many listen in their care commuting to work. Though I notice some of it is already being simulcast on FM on secondary HD channels.

Maybe they'll give at least part of the MW band to hams when all the BC stations go dark. It would be nice to have a 320m band.

But at the rate amateur activity has been falling off on 160-80-40 lately, there might not be anyone left by then to operate it.

I suppose after the SW radio apocalypse passes, there's always the option of putting up rolls of telegraph wire to communicate with one another.

You wouldn't happen to know where we can get some of that do you?

    Haha..

2 fav things to listen in on, an afternoon baseball game and "dx" AM Hockey games at night.

Hey, it would be a use for all that cheap copper coated aluminum speaker wire. Might last a whole year too.
