I though I would tell everyone about the mod for the Radio shack HTX 242.

I tryed it tonight and what a nightmare. When you do the mod DON'T CUT BOTH OF THE ITEMS. I did like the mod said and my radio woulnd't tran over 145 mhz. I finally jumped one of the things I cut and my radio seems to be working. If I go to high of a freq or to low I get a pl error.

So I just though I would warn anyone trying to mod their HTX-242

[Editor] Just why do people need MODS anyway? (read more)

By golly, the MARS/CAP organizations must really be growing
judging by the number of MODS requests that we get.

I can't count the number of times readers have written me
and said something like "I'm on the Hicksville Volunteer
Fire Department and need to mod my radio to use in
    my offical duties".

Well, guess what Bubba, it doesn't matter if you're the
county sheriff, it's still illegal. True FCC Type Accepted
radios are still required by law for ALL public service
work outside the HAM and MARS/CAP bands.

Then there's the wise guy who will say "I need it for
transverter operations". Yeah, and I'm a billionaire
    junk bond broker. Nice try.
