Well since MFJ is not worth it thinking about anymore, ive decided to save up for a new flex radio and amplifier from them. Flex seems like they will be here for the LONG haul. I've owned 2 flex radios in the past. Love them. Just need to save some cash for the ultimate amplifier on the market in my opinion. That power genius literally hums along at legal limit and doesn't even get warm. Such a shame I sold my al800h, al80b x2, al811h, al1306, man I'm never selling anything ham related ever again unless I'm going to die of starvation.

Per post #2 here, an offer was made by DX Engineering and subsequently declined by MFJ...

Poster claims to have reliable and verified information.

SS anmps are not 4K minimum. The Mercury IIIs is under 3k and will be way under 4k even after the price increase.

Tube amps are fairly simple devices that can be repaired by any competent technician who is comfortable with the voltages involved. There is no reason other than the ever shrinking supply of tubes that they can’t be kept going for decades. Acom still makes tube amps and I believe there’s one other maker.

Others are already stepping in to the small accessories market and there have always been other makers of tuners. They’re simple devices too, at least the manual ones, though I’ve no idea how available big air variables and roller inductors are anymore and MFJ I think made their own.

It’s certainly a loss but the sky isn’t falling.

DX Engineering apparently made an offer. I have no idea if the figure mentioned above is accurate WRT that offer but any offer had to be more than nothing.

A lot would depend upon the size of the offer, the company's current debt load, and the company's estimated income from piecemeal liquidation. There are other concerns as well.

Exactly. Years of selling cheap equipment to cheap hams finally took its toll.

I'm a cheap Ham, Hi Hi.
Keep in mind that the hobby of Amateur radio is just a hobby, which can be an expensive one and most hams are men and most wives don't condone us guys buying equipment out off the household budget. I'd say that is why mfj was succesfull for most of their time.
I never had any problems with their stuff, I guess I was lucky.

I was lucky too. I didn't buy a lot of their stuff, but the little I did buy, worked or at least worked as advertised. I am also in the same boat when it comes to detracting from the family budget. Most all my large expense gear has been purchased through overtime shifts.

With that said, there is nothing wrong with being cheap or frugal, but I did my research and I figured out, any big ticket items was well worth waiting and saving up for and avoiding MFJ's cheap lure.

I can only afford to buy once. ;)

MFJ has always been fine for me. For many MFJ articles there is no other source to buy from. MFJ has always been very creative and innovative. It's a bad thing we have to do without it now.

Why, that's UNAMERICAN, GXN! Just imagine if EVERYONE made do and didn't instantly shell out for the latest tech gadgets? Just THINK of all the poor bazillionaires who might be mere multi-millionaires but for OUR willingness to mortgage our futures for unnecessary crap? Tragic!

LOL...I suspect very FEW shell out anything. MOST just run up their credit card to instantly get the latest and greatest unnecessary crap.

IMO for many it seems the American way is to live your life on credit!

I learned early on, when it comes to unnecessary crap, it's best to save and wait...or just make do without. However, YMMV LS!
