What every one is missing MFJ also sold parts. That are very hard to come by.I did not buy an amp from yhem. But I did build one. I got my plate choke from them and other parts from them that are next to impossible to find. from them. So thanks to MFJ selling parts. I have Dual 813 Linear Amp that I built using parts that I got there. They will be missed. 73

I admit to castigating MFJ for their lack of quality control just like many hams. Did I purchase? Yes, over many years more than several. Did I have to return a few...yes. However, there are more than a few products that have lasted many years. Their antennas/antenna tuners, analyzers (still working after 25+ years while having to return an expensive Comet for scrap). Their DC power strips are robust and reasonably priced...have you tried to buy a WMR Rigrunner lately? Out of stock for almost a year with none in sight. The Chinese equivalents are a joke as are the eBay plastic hobbyist junk. I can't understand why the business cannot be sold...tax issues, govt. rules, protecting employees, low price (although something is better than nothing), logistics, start up expense, pride? I expect that most of their engineering was contract work and can still be found (but not in rural Mississippi) I will miss their products (well, some) and they are/were a force in the industry that absolutely needs to be continued. Oh yes, have you tried to find a reasonably priced QRP meter? The Bird 25H element is $285! OHR out of business. MFJ has several at very reasonable prices ($20 for a used and working) and accurate enough.

I agree with your statement, their parts supply was particularly important for many Builders or repair projects.

I picked up a brand new MFJ 15 meter moxon only because the price was a lot lower than purchasing all materials and building my own.

After a small modification to the driven element where I changed where the feed point wires connect and scrapped the ridiculous balun which was replaced with my own, this antenna is now my favorite antenna for HF.

After using the 15 for a while I added a passive 12 meter driver and now I have a 15/12 Moxy antenna, I already have a 4 element 10meter OWA with a 6 element 6meter open sleeve coupled on the same boom which is a very good antenna but the MFJ is still my favorite antenna.

I also have three Hy-gain V6-R's which are stacked 5/8th wave 6 meter verticals similar to the old AEA Isopole design.

One V6-R is an original pre hy gain design made by Nu-Tronics, the second is an original early edition Hy-gain which predates MFJ by 10 years and the final one is a late model MFJ design.

All three of these antennas tune up using the same dimensions and operate similarly.

In the Nu-Tronics model I had to replace the phasing coil with a MFJ replacement part when the Nu-Tronics part was misplaced during a move, as mentioned earlier all of these antennas tune similarly with similar dimensions.

Hey guys, I put in an order & paid for the last 1796 they had in stock two weeks ago but have no response other than "order received". Does anyone know anyone or have info on wether they are still shipping? NO ANSWER ON PHONES OR EMAILS.

A direct order with MFJ is getting risky. I will place all mine with shops like DX ENG, HRO, or GIGA if they show "in stock."

I was concerned about that too. If I don't get a response soon I will dispute on my CC. Has anyone else experienced a problem? Please let me know.

Patently smart. Don't purchase direct from any company that has for all intents and purposes locked their doors.

Bear in mind that you may have only 30 or 60 days to do so, check with the issuing credit card Bank. If you can get through to MFJ, tell them either ship it now or it gets charged back. Can you try DX, HRO, or GigaParts for what you need?

Understood, I was just gonna buy an entire spare for parts since it is the best-performing "compact" antenna for my HOA installation topping out at 12 ft. I have a 90% DX contact rate every time with this unit.

Now in December of 2024, why in the world would a man let 50 years of legacy die and not sell it to further leave money to his family. A foolish decision. MFJ made Ama radio affordable for many. Now amplifiers, tuners, accessories are financially out of reach for tons of people. To get a tube amp, which virtually no one makes anymore, it will be used and used more and reused and sold over and over again. Solid state amps are 4k minimum in price. Gone are the days of a new young ham getting an al811h for 900 bucks or an 80b for 2k. Bad move dude.

Well I guess you can get a 1kw icom pw2 for 5k as a new ham. Gotta take a loan out.

You know, YDR, you remind me of the (apocryphal?) Kansas farmer who was asked what he would do with the money if he won the Irish Sweepstakes. He said, "Well, I reckon I could keep the farm going for another couple of years."

My father the accountant used to say that you cannot tell how well any business or individual is doing unless you go over the books. I have no way of knowing for sure, but I suspect the reason MFJ is closing down is that it wasn't making any money.

As an aside, despite frequent (and unverifiable) claims by the Tesla people, I strongly suspect Elon Musk figured out that building and expanding and maintaining his Supercharger Network is a losing proposition and that's the real reason he fired the entire division. He hired a few back to complete some of the pending projects but I bet he will spin off the Supercharger operation in the near future.

    That is the part I don’t understand…

Even if he could’t get what he was asking for, at the end of the day, why not get something for it, rather than absolutely nothing?

    Makes no sense.

MFJ may not have any value beyond liquidation.
