What? No! I don’t think so. I’ll check when I get home. Nuts!

I have had problems with a few MFJ products that were new.

I never complained, I just fixed them instead of sending them back.

If you can solder then you can fix most problems. :)

The ones that complain are appliance operators. o_O

"Appliance operators.." You've got that right. "How do I tune my amp?" Really? Read the flippin manual. They are either lazy or illiterate. Perhaps they are both. What a bunch of babies.

I bought a new car. The body panels were misaligned and there were numerous mechanical problems, the engine kept stalling, the transmission didn't shift correctly, and the steering wheel kept pullling to the left. I fixed it myself. If you can't fix it yourself, you're just a Sunday driver who doesn't have any skills.

Sure you can complain if you don't vote. There's a strong case to be made that the alternatives are anything but alternatives, presented only to give the illusion of choice to keep people passified, that things will continue pretty much the same regardless, and there's no point. That was more true in the past than now, but I've never understood that argument. I DO understand the argument that the system is inherently corrupt and participating in it only makes YOU corrupt.

You can certainly complain if you don't vote. That argument has never made sense.

Invalid analogy. A car is far, far more complex and difficult to repair yourself than, say, an antenna tuner. Fixing a cold solder joint is in no way comparable to repairing a transmission or doing a wheel alignment, starting with the fact that virtually ever ham has, or should have, the minimal tools (a soldering iron and some solder) to repair a cold solder joint or just solder something that should be but isn't. How many people have an alignment rack in their garage?

Unbelievable, I emailed them asking for an update and they cancelled my order, what a bunch of jokers.

Apparently they have decided this morning to no longer manufacture items that are currently on order. So if you're waiting for stuff..... good luck.

You're correct in military terms “RTFM”
I would imagine 70% of their warranty work or more, was probably because the operator not knowing how to tune their amplifiers. Which makes it pretty hard if you're a manufacturer.
And also there's good YouTube's out there on how to tune things. I've never had a problem with an AL-811 amplifier, even with all the claims of bad tubes now days, when tuned properly. I've seen a lot of used amplifiers that my friends bought that have extensive problems because of abuse.

I bet also a lot of their tuners were damaged in the same way, trying to tune into a shorted antenna.

I believe that the analogy is valid. When you buy something new, there is a REASONABLE EXPECTATION that the product is free from manufacturing defects, regardless of the price paid or of the complexity of the device. I don't buy a finished product with the expectation that I WILL have to correct defects "out of the box", regardless of my ability or inability to fix it.

    Your opinion may vary.

This is really a hilarious thread, "Appliance Operator" - one of my favorites, I suppose that's suppose to be an insult or slap.
Yet, how many people actually build anything, anymore, even the simplest thing like an antenna.

Wait a sec... why am I wasting time reading this junk, when I could be operating...?!

We're in the flight path of military jets, boy, every time they fly over, it's like a rocket launch, I just wanna watch!
2 just flew over, hmmm... I wonder if they've be called 'appliance operators' by the guys/gals who Fix or fuel them up?
... just spinning knobs, pulling & pushing a stick & pedals, trash talking on the radio ... operating an appliance? sheeze!

Maybe a simple tuner, but how many people repair 7300's and other advanced radio's in their shack?

Don't get to hangup on the term "Appliance Operator",
It's been used for the last 50 or 60 years at least.

It basically means that the operator isn't to technical and maybe doesn't care to be, and relies on manufacturers built equipment, which most of us do nowadays, not necessarily a negative phrase.
