I've no experience with magnetic return paddles. I'm no speed demon (20-30 wpm) so is there any incentive to buy a magnetic paddle? Also, I don't use iambic keying.

    Your experience?

It might not be a fair comparison, but here goes... I have a couple of spring-return paddles - old Ham Key models, which are Brown Bros knock offs. I also have an N3ZN ZN-9 magnetic return paddle. The difference is night and day. Sending with the ZN-9 is effortless. The Ham Keys are okay, but nothing like the ZN.

On the other hand, the Ham Keys cost me about $25 each, as compared to almost $300 for the N3ZN. Is the difference worth the price? You be the judge.

    Thanks for the input.

I'm currently using a BY-1 and don't really have anything else for comparison. I was looking at Begali magnetic paddles as a possibility.

My experience: I have used about everything made, my favorite are touch paddles.

I have used and still own both spring and magnet and IMO it's simply a matter of preference and not really good/better but different.

We are tinkerer, having fun, but our hobby is scientific by essence. Still need screws to adjust magnets gap, forces, actually? come on! has anyone ever imagined an OOK «universal» device with all forces electromagnetic, currents within each coil infinitely adjustable, one could counter the other, feedback amp, software defined, ML, user's mood, anything.

The 9A5N paddles sure got some great reviews. I wish I could try one to see if I like it.

Yep, limitless possibilities. I should probably just keep using the BY-1 but what fun would that be?

I like the feel of a spring better. This could just be my experience (lack of) level. All keys are fun and every opinion on this topic will be correct. :)
