I say "why not." UNLESS you are thinking about going for Extra. If so, wait until then and try for a spiffy 1x2! That way, you wouldn't have to change calls twice.

You will soon enough be known by your new call.

By the way, glad you are only considering 4-land calls. Out-of-district vanity calls are an affront to man, nature, and God Himself!*

(* - This is a controversial topic on Der Zedd. Heh heh heh...)

Licensed 10Jan2020 as a General, upgraded to Extra March 2020, kept my issued call KO4AXN for a year. Hated it. Changed to K4NWD this year. November Whiskey Delta rolls off the tongue better, and it reflects my love of Kenwood gear.

My fcc given call was KD8LZL. I didn't mind it much till I got into cw. AA8NN yields less repeats!

I had my call for 30 years before changing it to a 1x2 call, much better for DX purposes.

However, I had to write my new call on a 5 x 3.5 index card and taped it to my cars dashboard cause I kept misidentifying using my old call WA2AEH.

A big plus is a larger font on your NEW QSL cards with only 4 characters. :)

Don't be afraid to change your calls, its not a big deal.

I know exactly what you mean. It's why I have never changed my callsign. I will always be KC2SIZ so long as I live in "2" land.
