Letting go....I'm having trouble deciding to change my call from 2x3 to 1x3.

I operate primarily CW ( have been for the past 14 months or so) - and having to use my FCC issued call is a bit laborsome. I mean, not really, but the CW weight is 72, and it seems like it takes forever to send it at my 10-12 WPM sending speed.

I've been flipping through the N4XXX calls, and have found a couple that "roll off the key", but still have a CW weight of about 52. Better, but nothing like some of the 1x2s I've seen.

I've had the same call since around 2007 when I first got my tech license. I didn't upgrade to General until last May, 2020.

Is there anyone else who had trouble "letting go" of your old call sign?

I'm not in love with my old call sign, but it's just "who i am", I guess. I am KI4WCC in my mind and I'm having trouble adjusting to the thought of a new call.

Any words of encouragement or advice is greatly appreciated, as usual.

It's who you are. It's your name.

Whenever I hear a 1 x 3 call these days, I may reasonably presume the guy or gal has been licensed 1 year. Real Old Timers.

I don't have any trouble 'letting go' of my call sign. I can't fathom any reason for doing so, except that until the very near future,
it's been without any real financial cost.
Same logic as stealing a pocketful of ketchup packets from McDonalds.

Be who you are. Everyone else is already taken.

When I was 12, I got my first Novice license, KB2CVH... that's a key full (78!!).. I couldn't wait to get my new 1x3 call when I upgraded to Tech in 1989. N2JBE was 58, which was quite a bit better. My current call is 64, but I don't do much CW anymore, so it's less important.

If you're going to change it, upgrade and get a 2x1 or 1x2

YES! When I first started looking, I looked at the WCC variants. Unfortunately the K4 was taken ( easy to just drop a letter) and the N4 was actually not available yet, although it's showing available now!

This may actually be a compromise I can live with. LOL.

I regret changing mine when I moved from 7 land to 4 land, even after 4 years.
