    Right. I ran into this when I tried to use my Shack adaptor on a Dell Lap. Dell would not recognize it. BAD DOG!

    Most of the Dell's like that have 3 wires. 3rd wire is sense.

    You have to add a special value resistor in order to trick it.

    Another train of thought would be to disassemble a tired battery (3S2P) and connect a 12VDC supply that way. You can circumvent the 19VDC PSU requirement.
