As I was trying just to listen, on 20m FT8 today somebody was replying on TX window (0 to 1000Hz) "MUSTB EXTRA" - can anybody explain why? I believed based on band plans that CW-RTTY-DATA was up for grabs for general's up to 14.150. This had me scratching my head. Anybody has any insight? Thanks!!
LOL. Probably just somebody with < an Extra class ticket making an incognito sarcastic comment about an easily identified Extra improperly using FT8 DXped by calling below the 1 Khz boundary. Lids come in all license classes of course. But lately I read and sense a lot of rivalry to downright hostility vis-a-vis license classes. Some, usually but not always OM Extra's, are still upset about changes over license class written tests, Morse code requirements, sub-band allocations, etc etc etc. (not me though) and take those feelings out on Generals and Techs by being overly harsh and bully-like if they are spotted messing up. So it would not be surprising to me if a non-Extra took an opportunity to get snarky back at one .
In that same vein of sarcasm, no shortage of snarky comments seen following DX Cluster spots for the Baker operation. Worked on 21 CW a few minutes ago. Tried 21SSB but copy too light. Same with 18CW, just below the noise level. Still hurting for a DIGITAL contact! Some logs uploaded but my 40M SSB and 15CW not there yet. No leaderboards this time so I can't see how I am doing with respect to the San Diego DX Club.
I don't consider working the on different bands and modes a dupe. Someday I have to go for a 5BDXCC ( if I live that long). Just check 295 cards for a ham in the DX CLub for 80M only!!! That blew my mind!!! I only have about 10 on 80!!
well RTTY is, but FT8 isnt! I haven't heard them on my CELLPHONE yet!!! I need them for a CELLPHONE DXCC!
Still hurting for ANY contact... Only hearing them on 30/40 at 09:30z for like 15 min and thats it. If I don't snag em by the weekend time to kick things up a notch..
That makes a whole lot of sense...dude. With RTTY you could use an old Model 28 pecker and an old 1.5" CRT for tuning with a bunch of 6SN7s doing the decoding work. That's MORE ham radio than using a computer.
