I took the the instructions that Dave Santoro W2DHS posted on creating a TM-d710G of sorts and slighty modified them keeping the puck from inside the gps inside the control head
    http://www.w2dhs.com/2016/07/07/adding-gps-to-a-kenwood-rc-d710-and-possibly-tm-d710/

I did run into problems with the GPS puck iI had been using for years where it would loose its GPS fix so i swapped it out for a new one after a few days, some dremel work remains but it does fit inside the control head right where the mount clips in.

GPS itself pops right out of its housing

GPS has a nice connector on the wires, and with enough cable insulation removed the whole thing slide out of the housing

I used a pair of needle nose pliers to unscrew the brass rings from the pots on the front

My amateur soldering job, I forgot to take a picture of the other side of the board where the data connection from the gps is made

Excellent job! I have a D710A and have been using a Deluo GPS puck with a mess of wire, adapter cables and an old Cingular Wireless cigarette lighter plug phone charger wired in to power it. Luckily most of it is hidden and it's been a work horse for 13+ years.

Nice work, down to the battery placement. Maybe you might want to note that in the 'notes' section of the paper manual for future reference. While I have your attention, you may want to check out a post about "Curious GPS Interference" in the General Announcements. ( Alternately, see globalfishingwatch.org/data-blog/circling-above-point-reyes/ regarding possible AIS or more likely, GPS spoofing ). Keep your eyes on the road!
