I just looked at HRO's discontinued list and the 281A was listed. Also, what is with the price? I bought mine about four years ago and, IIRC, it was about $135 or so. It is still active on DXE but also at that higher price. Another victim of semiconductor availability? 73
HRO has them on the shelf at 4 locations: https://www.hamradio.com/detail.cfm?pid=H0-011362 Gigaparts has them in stock: https://www.gigaparts.com/kenwood-tm-281a.html DXE has them in stock: https://www.dxengineering.com/parts/kwd-tm-281a Still shows current on the Kenwood site: https://www.kenwood.com/usa/com/amateur/tm-281a/ Dave W7UUU
Doesn't look like it's been discontinued. KENWOOD TM-281A Transceivers Mobile 2 Meters, TM281A (hamradio.com)
DAmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmn they got really pricey. I paid just over half that about 3 years ago. KENWOOD TM-281A 144 MHz 65 Watt FM Mobile Transceiver - 200 Memories - with Weather Alert HRO Discount Price: $209.95*
Prices have sure gone up on amateur radio equipment since that Japanese factory burned down that makes ADC chips for many industries and from the pandemic.
That's not too bad, Gigaparts has the TM-D710A for a mere $720! https://www.gigaparts.com/kenwood-tm-d710g.html
Went to New Castle DE HRO today to get some antenna building stuff and there were almost NO 2m mobile radios on the shelf. They said they had a few in the back but what used to be fully stocked shelves were almost empty. Some other things they had plenty of but not 2m mobiles Good news is my antenna project was completed and it seems to be working very well.
