Down in South Louisiana, just below Baton Rouge, sits Ascension Parish. The Ascension Parish Amateur Radio Club (K5ARC) is a small but very active club. Through a close working relationship with the Parish OEP the club has registered as a CERT Team and has a very well stocked emergency communications trailer. The trailer was used at a Parish run shelter during the recent flooding our area experienced. KC5ARC participates in the annual Christmas parades and sets up displays at area festivals. Monthly meetings and club events are always open to anyone who wants to drop by.
To learn more about the Ascension Amateur Radio Club you can visit their website at , or their Facebook page at .
In the spirit of showing Hams doing Ham Stuff, Club Secretary, Steve/ KC5ARC, videos the monthly club meetings and puts them on his YouTube channel. This is a benefit for those club members who can't attend meetings due to family or work commitments as well as those who don't live in the area but want to keep up with what the club is doing.
While the meeting for this month (Sept) was cancelled due to the recent flooding, other months are available to watch and get an idea of some of the things the club is doing. Feel free to watch what we are up to.

It's been a few months since the last post. We had some flooding and several club members were affected by the disaster. Catch up with the Ascension Parish Amateur Radio Club with our most recent meeting.

The Ascension Amateur Radio Club, K5ARC, held its monthly meeting on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at the main fire station in Gonzales, La.
This was the first regular meeting since August due to the historic flooding in the area. Much of the agenda was discussing the impact of the floods on the club, its records and equipment.
The club Echolink computer was lost to the flood, at least one repeater was damaged, participation in events such as Veterans Day parades and the New Orleans Hamfest canceled and much of the club paperwork was destroyed.
Election of officers was quick with all current officers retaining their positions for another term.
Plans were made for the December eating and social meeting.
Discussion was held on ways to publicize the club and guest Tom, N7WEM, talked about his experience with the Sunlife ARC in Arizona.
Club members beat the Red Cross/ARES/Flood combined disaster horse until it was well and truly dead. Then, while discussing negative issues, drama in the Thibodaux ham club was brought up and we learned how toxic one member can disrupt a group.
Al will assist with liquidating Greg Babins ham gear, will get new keys made for the Seacan storage container and find the current bylaws so the club Officers can update them.
    Meeting adjourned at 8:12pm

The Ascension Amateur Radio Club (K5ARC) June 2018 newsletter, Ascension Airwaves, is out. You can see it on our website at before our regular monthly meeting which is this coming Wednesday, 7pm at the Gonzales Fire Station.
There's lots going on in Ascension and we invite everyone to keep up with our club via our newsletter and website as well as on the air via the 146.985 (107.2pl) or our 145.31 (107.2pl) repeater. Also, don't forget our regular weekly nets at 7pm on the 145.31 repeater on Wednesday nights (except the first Wed which is meeting Wednesday).

The July issue of the Ascension Airwaves newsletter is still up for a few more days. But our next meeting is coming up soon, on August 1. Before the meeting we will have the August issue of the newsletter out and posted to the website. Our 145.225 repeater, which has been off the air for a couple of years is operational again but still needs some work. And we have done quite a bit of clerical type work including opening a new checking account and renewing the club call as well as updating the info with the FCC and the ARRL. We attended the Slidell Hamfest this past weekend and sold lots of surplus items from our storage Seacan and raised over $450 from the sales. Check out our website and keep up with us at .
