    Charles R Whicker, K4ITV SK



    Charles "Charlie" R. Whicker, 98, of Bristol, VA passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at The Waters of Bristol, Bristol, TN. He was born in Bristol, VA on May 6, 1927, a son of the late Gus W. Whicker and Mabel Hudson Whicker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia Whicker; and two sisters, Billee Jean Lynch and Brenda Griffith.







    He was a lifelong resident of Bristol and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Italy at the conclusion of World War II. He was president of Central Glass Company for 39 years and was the owner and operator of Whicker Glass for 10 years. He was an avid Ham Radio operator for over 70 years where his call name was K4ITV. He was also a member of the ARRL Club. Charlie was a past member of the Bristol Rotary Club and enjoyed playing golf and photography. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bristol, VA.







    He is survived by three daughters, Carole Gabel of Brandon, FL, Cheryl Milhorn and her husband, Jack, of Blountville, TN, and Marlene Pemberton and her husband, Mike, of King, NC; one sister, Phyllis Wright and her husband, Mickey, of Bristol, VA; seven grandchildren, Patrick Gabel, Donald Gabel and his wife, Nicole, Justin Gabel and his wife, Laura, Chuck Milhorn and his wife, Celeste, Jackie Bragg and her husband, Michael, Brian Milhorn and his wife, Mary, and Chris Combs and his fiancé, Sarah; 15 great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.







    A celebration graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 pm Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Mountain View Cemetery in Bristol, VA with Rev. Robert Kariuki Nyaga officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army National Guard Honor Guard and the Boone Dam VFW 4933. Those who wish to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 12:45 pm Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Bristol Humane Society, 16222 Lee Hwy., Bristol, VA 24202.
