The 2026 Chasing Cornwallis Challenge Series continues with K4G - the Battle of Guilford Courthouse, Event #3 of our 6 Annual Special Events Commemorating the pivotal Southern battles of America's Fight for Independence.

The www.history.radio website awaits your visit to learn about the prelude, the battle, and the aftermath of this important engagement.

Our collective events have a singular Mission:

Ignite the Ember of Patriotism into a Flame of the American Spirit
Our commemorative Special Events extend beyond American shores to include all 195 sovereign nations of the world—a reach made possible by the victory at Yorktown, which halted the globalist ambitions of King George III.

Consider: There were only two nations in the late 18th century who posed a credible threat to Great Britain: France and Spain. The Colonies? Hardly—especially considering the majority of colonists were devout Loyalists, with even greater widespread support within Canada.

But what of France and Spain?

You likely have heard of the Seven Years' War between France and Great Britain. What might be lost is just how recent Britain's victory against France was; 1763 was just seven short years before the Boston Massacre.

France, despite having more than double the estimated enlistments, suffered enormous losses, ceding almost all of its North American territory—including Canada and all lands east of the Mississippi River—as well as the Indian subcontinent.

Spain? It may surprise you to learn that during America's War for Independence, Spain declared war on Great Britain in 1779, just two years prior to Yorktown.

    How did that turn out?

Well, suffice it to state: not so well for Spain. We encourage further research into the misfortunes that befell Spain, which had nothing to do with musket balls or naval cannons.

Imagine the sight: magnificent, ornate Spanish galleons—veritable floating cathedrals—reduced to drifting tombs. While the world watched for the smoke of naval cannons, it was the apocalyptic fury of Atlantic hurricanes and the silent, creeping rot of disease that conquered the Spanish fleet.

With Great Britain's global rivals defeated, the American victory at Yorktown birthed a new nation and cleared a path for global sovereignty. The Battle of Guilford Courthouse played a decisive role in that eventual outcome.

After a record-smashing start to the year with K4C (Battle of Cowpens) and K4B (Battle of Moore's Creek Bridge), our tireless Volunteers are ready to greet your check-in at K4G.

And next, the "Big One"—K4A America250—arrives this July.

K4A promises to be a splendid 10-day on-air celebration of the Semiquincentennial of the Declaration of Independence (commemorating the draft, not the signing, as most of us were taught).

The Chasing Cornwallis Challenge began the America250 Commemoration with "Launch Editions" in 2024 and 2025.

Last year saw over 1.8 million website visits and 80,000 direct engagements with Amateur Operators from 135 countries.

Stay tuned for details on an Amateur Radio Special Event like no other for America250. I will let out a tasty morsel: callsign followed by the event numbers "250" to work "56" confirmed contacts in 10 days - for those who attended our K4A - Kilo 4 America Launch Editions, "56" is a well understood number of significance.

We are still enlisting K4A America250 Volunteer NCS's for the July event. Interested? Send an email to my address to schedule a guided tour of the website's Volunteer Dashboard—a hidden page that makes Volunteering easy and fun!

"Hip-Hip HUZZA!" to our growing family of Participants, esteemed Volunteers, and appreciative Donors supporting our Mission, and to the QRZ staff as we, together:

    "Keep the Stories Alive."

The Chasing Cornwallis Challenge is a lot of fun and without chasers, we net controllers would have nothing to do so come one come all!!

Welcome to the third of the series. This is going to be a fun one, but they are all fun. I will be hosting K4G primarily on 40 meter CW. This will be the second one with my new to me, Kenwood TS 990S. My antenna is a simple 40m inverted vee at 32 feet. I work from my bed in a nursing home. The new logging feature is great for me typing with one finger. CQ de K4G K.

As a reminder of convenience, all K4G current Activations are listed in real-time on the homepage Activation Table making it easy to find Volunteer NCS's on the band/mode of your choosing.

We hope you will visit https://www.history.radio/ and enjoy a unique way to conceptualize the entire Revolutionary War, or as it is referred outside of the United States, America's War for Independence.

Pro Tip: to speed you visit, simply enter into your browser history.radio and you speedily arrive quicker than https:// or www as I heard growing up: "lickity split" now about that saying, wonder who the heck came up with that, moreover, who was present to anoint the description, and how did it spread. Did the two fellers do a Paul Revere midnight ride scaring the bee jeebies out of their neighbors...there's another one, worries the bejeezus out of me to figure out the origin. The whole matter is cattywampus - now THERE is a word - ha! Okay, enough of that.

Now here is something bonefide cattywampus - ever stop to think why UTC - Universal Coordinated Time isn't abbreviated to UCT?

Ha - "bonefide" - who remembers the movie Paper Moon - ok, I'm done - HUZZA!!!

Hey Andrew I noticed you and your brother have consecutive call sign numbers. Did you test together at the same location? That is what me (KE0CYN) and my son Isaac (KE0CYM) did when I had to retest due to a lapsed license. But I'm glad I did because we ended up with consecutive call signs as well :)

    Hi Henry,

Glad you asked. Yes, we did. Our dad also tested then. He is AD9HU. I guess you could say it was a “family affair.”

I'm a bit late to the party, is anyone doing FT8 for this one? Thanks to all the volunteers who are on the air for this one. K4AGS, Michael

Hi Michael - There have been several FT8 K4G Activations albeit the majority have been SSB and CW.

Volunteers have full discretion over the bands/modes they operate.

Since we are a content-rich Special Event, FT8 is not as common due to the 13-character restriction, not even enough to invite contacts to www.history.radio or the QSL Card page.

As the processor of all QSL Cards, an increasing number of year-over-yeart FT8 QSL Card requests are non-compliant despite our clearly stated, and generous policy to offer no-cost cards, Donation optional...but policies are of no value if not read or not known to exist.

In 2025 over 8K QSL Cards were mailed, >800 of those were mailed to FT8 requesters despite their mailed request contained no Donation (perfectly ok) and no S.A.S.E (imperfectly not ok).

Do the math, a significant portion of Donations intended to offset operational costs and programming expansion, were instead diverted to fund the USPS for first-class stamps.

    This is not sustainable.

As the founder/facilitator of the Chasing Cornwallis Challenge, I hold no animus against any mode that:
    • Supports our Mission
    • Can be uploaded/confirmed within the QRZ Logbook
Very interested to read your, or anyone else's, suggestion(s) of how we can fulfill our Mission inside a 13-character message restriction.

    Thank you,
    Marc - W4OVT

Thanks to all you who participated in the K4G Special Event. We battled through some pretty tough band conditions this week and I for one am thankful for your patients and perseverance as we did our best to get you credit for K4G in your Chasing Cornwallis Challenge. I apologize if I was not able to pull you in, there were several of you who I just couldn't hear. I look forward to our next event, getting you in that log, and (fingers crossed) better band conditions. HUZZA! See you in July!!! - Mike/KV0MR
