20M during the day ( mornings are best ) , 40M at night.

GO to 14.078, Set your rig to transmit 50-80W, enable HB+ACK ( heartbeat ) and AUTO mode on JS8Call.

Your rig will transmit a signal and people listening in AUTO mode will send you a signal report! You can send queries to theses stations as to which stations they are hearing as well. Read up on some of the options.

I thought this was a conversation mode?

It combines the automatic capabilities of FSQcall along with FT8 and Expanded FT8 messages...

    Very flexible mode indeed.

So are people having real ragchew conversations with the mode?

You can use it just like psk31 if you choose to. Since it works down to an SNR of about -24dB, it is necessarily slower than psk31 which works down to an SNR of about -7dB. However, at an SNR of -15dB it is infinitely faster than psk31.

" So are people having real ragchew conversations with the mode? "

Yes, we are. go check it out sometime. Fewer macros than I remember on PSK31.

Its not a real busy mode but people are having QSO's. Its slower than PSK31 though.

The great thing is you can get automated responses, have a quick contact or a slow chat.....more
flexible than FT8 alone and much better weak signal response than FSQcall.

I've had some nice JS8Call QSOs, and liked it. It's like PSK31, but slower. But certainly fast enough for a good ragchew. As you've observed, the problem is lack of activity. :(

I see quite a few monitors, but not a lot of signals, alas.
