    JS8 _is_ based on FT8 (It was originally called FT8Call, but Joe asked me to rename it). The mode uses the same modulator and demodulator, the same forward error correction, and the same ordered statistics decoder as FT8. It _does_ use a different synchronization Costas array, thankfully.

    However, it _is_ more than just a new interface.

    What is original _is_ the protocol. This includes the payload structure, the adaptive text compression, and the directed command and reply sequencing.
