Greetings to all I’m looking to repaint the case on a Valiant. Does anyone know of a source for the maroon color as used on series one radios? Thank you. Billy
Thank you!!!! I did a search there earlier with no results, but I didn’t include maroon. Paint is ordered! I was given the Valiant that belonged to Bill Feldman N6PY (SK) as used at the family cabin at June Lake CA. He did extensive mods to it and am told it sounds awesome, but came without a case. I put a want ad in the QRZ wanted forum for a case and viola! One is on its way from Ohio courtesy of Lane N8AFT. includes is a replacement meter bezel and badge for my Valiant II. I hope to have it on the air soon from our cabin near Prescott. Thanks again for your help. Billy
Use a "self etching" primer before shooting the paint. I'm assuming you will strip the paint. Be sure it is dead dry... _-_-
Read the can? The mfrs lit may say... usually if it is for aluminum it probably is. Or you can just buy some that says "self-etching"?
You got me! Going to have the case shell blasted. Vinegar is good at etching metal but I’ll look to see what the labels say. Thanks.
I changed the thread title. The case showed up today and it’s in very good condition. Too bad the wrinkle finish has to come off. It’s a Valiant II case to go on a Valiant I, hence the maroon paint which I ordered. The person who gifted the case to me also included the very hard to source badge. I am stoked! Now my other Valiant will have the missing piece and as a bonus, a replacement meter bezel. Onward!
Look up Sherwin Williams UP07228 adhesion promoter. I like this better than Bulldog adhesion promoter, it covers a bit more evenly. Well worth the price on a project like this.
Some pictures from today. As can be seen, having the badge and new bezel sure dress up the Valiant II. The cabinet is quite clean and damage free so it will be much easier to prepare for painting. The Valiant I works quite well and will used on 80 & 20 meters while the II stays on 40.
