Hams take pride in being prepared for natural disasters and infrastructure failures of all kinds. Is there a backup plan for doing the show via shortwave, SSTV, and/or the Internet if the TWiT studios are down or (let's hope this doesn't happen) destroyed by an earthquake or other natural disaster? It would make good sense to have one!
Many hams take pride in being able to keep essential things, including critical communications ability, functioning in a variety of circumstances. But there are plenty of very good hams who let a few non-essential things become dependent on utility-provided services. If a major power failure means a few people have to wait an extra week or so to see an interesting and valuable but nonessential podcast, big deal.
