I've been inactive for almost 10 years. What has changed?

Ham radio has become HAM radio.... looks and sounds more official that way. ;)

Seriously, while a great deal of new stuff has come along, many of the old and basic concepts remain. There are folks who actually converse, talking about all sorts of stuff. The good news is there is a lot of (frequency) space in which to play, and experimentation is still alive and well. Contest operation is popular if such is what one chooses to do, and there are numerous digital modes that are used in contests and in regular communication.

Have fun and do not take it too seriously.
