Same same same.
We need video.
THE CB FOLKS ARE FAMOUS FOR PUTTING " MORE FIRE IN THE WIRE ".
It's fun to make fun of CB'ers and I'm guilty of it too, but.....
I'd rather elmer an old CB'er than an IT nerd who doesn't understand fundamentals like SWR, propagation, transmit and receive, etc.
I am amazed by some of the questions that new extra class hams ask.
they seem so disappointed that there $30 amazon HT doesn't have national encrypted coverage.
If there were a Pulitzer Prize for Zed posting this would be in the running. Well said.
<--Was an IT nerd long before he got licensed.
I think I understand the fundamentals. Maybe I don't, but I've met plenty of 4x4ers using CBs (CB is or was big in 4x4 circles for trail comms, which is where I got some hands-on) that don't really get it either.
Yup. I'm a mere General and am always surprised when I come across an Extra that knows less than me (not that I'm a fount of knowledge myself). Even if said Extra "memorized" the question pool, you have to have absorbed something to memorize enough questions and answers.
FCC rules aside, encryption is such an important element of communication or systems management today I can see how the lack of encryption in amateur radio is confusing to people who come from an IT or security background. Given the constant barrage of attacks *any* electronic system is subject to, pretty much any system or data stream that can be accessed electronically should be encrypted.
You're just scared.
You're not PC?
You should apologize!
Then again, you might get reported by the easily aggrieved, having your snarky post deleted. Not that such things happen.
For that kind of CB power you need the matching antenna.
Paranoia strikes deep...
A diode here and a diode there...
Kilroy was a CB'er!
CB'ers are EVERYWHERE!
On and off again, I personally think closet CB'ers have dominated the Zed for much of its existence.
Come out! Come out... wherever you are!
