This is not an actual picture of the 818, this is the QRO version Yeasu is currently working on. The 818 comes with a pygmy goat.

According to Wikipedia, the FT-817 uses the same main circuit board as the FT-857 and FT-897.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yaesu_FT-817

That could make it more expensive to make major changes to the design. With the great success of the FT-817, there could also be concern about changing a product that is still selling so well.

    1. I already have an 817ND.
    2. That extra advertised watt almost sounds like satire.
    3. My freq stability is just fine, thanks.
    4. That battery. More satire?
    5. 819 dollars. 819. 818 = 819 $. Really? This must be fake news.
    6. Where's the internal sound card? ATU? other 4 watts just to attempt to match Elecraft? IP67 rating? Anything????

I was not impressed with what Yaesu calls a new radio. Going from 5 watts to 6 watts?......Really, that's an improvement?
I had high hopes. I figured they would put a LiPo battery in it and maybe some DSP. Instead.....one watt more power and a TCXO.
Doesn't Yaesu notice what people are making for the 817 to make it better?
Peg Legs to tilt the radio, LiPo battery with an external charger, DSP, cranker knob........and all they can come up with is a new number and 1 Watt?

I said before this may be an April Fool's joke and I was kind of right. Yaese says, "April Fools" you thought you were getting a new radio. Ha Ha
