    I'm going to post the dissenting opinion. I have one and I like it. Easy to program with Chirp or from the front panel. Good receiver and I get very good reports on tx audio. Have not yet had any issues related to heating although I'm sure its certainly possible. Crossband repeat works well.

    I bought mine on Amazon from a seller in the US and have had no problems. It is not one of the early models that had all the issues.

    I used it in the shack for a while and moved it to the car when a different radio tool it's place.

    In the context of "good started radio" I personally think it's fine.

    If you want to save a couple of bucks, get the 7800 which is 2m and 70cm only. The other bands have very little meaningful application unless there's activity local to you that you want to join.
