    I have an IC-7610 and a Flex 6400 + Maestro.

I really enjoy both rigs, but I certainly do not consider the IC-7610 lowering your sights. I actually have the Flex 6400 at a remote location (using a tower) and use either my desktop or Maestro to use it. I have my IC-7610 in my home QTH. (Dipole in the trees) I almost exclusively use my IC-7610 because it's sitting right there and it is an incredibly slick rig.

I will say this, you will not be unhappy with either rig. If you do go with the Flex, I recommend you consider the Flex-6400 + Maestro over the Flex-6400M. While the M has higher res display. You can put the Flex-6400 wherever you want, and use the Maestro. It's smaller, has the same interface, and portable! Couch, (has WiFi), bed, living room, in the shack, or even in a suite case in a hotel room in Chicago/Tokyo/Rome/at a buddies house.

The Flex-6400 + Maestro is similar in price to the Flex-6400M.

If you like real buttons and knobs. The IC-7610 is the better radio.

The Flex is the radio I use remotely and the IC-7610 is my sitting at the radio rig. For me, it's truly the best of both worlds. Performance wise, they are both awesome.

Good luck on your retirement and your retirement rig!

Thanks, Dave! My intention was not to imply that the IC-7610 would be lowering my sights.

Your points are well taken and will figure into my ultimate decision. I have two Icom rigs (756 Pro II and 706 MKIIG) and had an original 706 (since sold) and I do like the Icom implementation.

But, antennas must come first! In the meantime, the Pro II and 706MKIIG will serve me well!

The Icom IC-7610 has allot eye candy but I don't see anything in it that would make me get rid of my Icom IC-7600. I got one of the last new ones. I guess I could call it NOS.

What do you find offensive about it? Or, should I ask, what about it is incorrect? Kids believe in Santa Claus, a made-up, mythical person. Adults believe in an equally made-up, mythical person (god). It's an apt analogy, don't you think?

I sold the 6700, and looking back it was one of the BEST days of my Ham life. NO more Updates and spending all my time setting up things, "Now I'm on the Air and having Fun!
I must have spent 100s of hours over the years since the 1st Flex, and that is time I will never get back.
Life is to short for Flex SDR

I'm back to real knobs on my SDR.

Dunno, Heck, People around here didn't even like my "Stock Market" Signature. Others had hissy fits when they suffered signature envy just because "Mine Was Bigger" after the board updated it's software.
    Go Figure....
