I have been paying attention to the home page for awhile and it appears to me, they are always showing the same, particularly youtube channels, as if you could pay to have your videos in there or there is some sort of agreement between the parties. I'm curious if there is a process for the home page ads or they just "like" to put the same people in there at the top. doing a search in the site, I've seen some other users pointing out the same, so this is not random. any ideas?
Personally, I never access the QRZ home page. The link that I use to access QRZ, goes straight to the forums and automatically logs me in. I scan the sub forums that I am interested in, and then I leave. I looked around the home page, because of your post, but I didn't find anything interesting.
Sometimes the home page is worthwhile but mostly it isn't. Still check it out but I am a sucker for too much information.
The answer is "no". No one pays to be on the homepage other than the advertisers whose ads you might see. You see some of the same content creators over and over because they regularly submit content for consideration by the homepage editor. It would be nice if more content were contributed - but QRZ works with what there is to work with. Some of it is created in-house, some comes from ARRL news or other sources, but most is content created by users that passes editorial muster. There are clear guidelines in the Amateur Radio News sub-forum for submissions. We would LOVE more variety in content being submitted in fact! It just has to meet the submission guidelines like any other publisher would require. Dave W7UUU
"...You see some of the same content creators over and over because they regularly submit content for consideration by the homepage editor...." that explains a lot. thanks for clarifying.
I do the same thing but every now and then I go check it out and these days without decent antenna I've paid attention to the "ads" shown there.
