Don't think you can discount the current state of the solar cycle. Just when band conditions seemed rather hopeless along come digital modes that are covering real good distances despite poor conditions of course their popularity will soar. That's not to say that more traditional modes won't have an uptick as (if) conditions improve.

Yes, and that happened in the last cycle dip, as well. Olivia, Contestia, and RTTYM all showed up about the time as people were opining the lack of sunspots ca. 2006.

Funny, took K1JT to make you write above fact, and not 15 years ago.

FT8 opened eyes, yours were already open.

I'm not even sure what that sentence means.
Well, I was one of those opining the lack of sunspots in the last cycle. ;)

This time around, I am much better at making antennas for 160m, 80m, and 40m, so it doesn't bug me nearly as much. :D

    I finally have a decent 160 meter antenna, not a beverage but. . . . . . . .

160m contest season is certainly approaching.

If I make it to 160m season this year, my antenna construction will probably start mid-November. ;)

Are we dead yet, are we dead yet, are we dead yet, are we dead yet, are we dead yet?

I know. I know, knock it off or you'll turn this thread around :p

To be fair, the title of the thread is a little bait-y. It would help if the thread had been restarted under a title like, "Is FT8 good for AR" or something similar.

Talking about the "death" of AR just makes most people's eyes roll.
