I heard them one time on 15 meter CW I could not copy them on FT8 on any bands during the days and times I tried,

I'd be surprised if anybody that wanted to work them for a "new one" didn't work them on at least one band. I worked them easily on 15m CW from my usual portable spot and that was good enough for me. DXCC #200 worked from there.
Only needed that entity on 2 bands thanks to previous activations. Got them on one of the two. On the other they were ESP at this QTH. I did listen, but not call, on bands I already had confirmed. All operators I heard were excellent and went to great lengths to clarify the callsigns of stations they had only copied a partial callsign from. More patient than the ops on many other dxpeditions and I'm sure that was appreciated who needed them for an ATNO.
Many thanks to the whole team - good job OM's! Could work CY9C on 6 bands in FT8 including my no. 100 DXCC on 80m. 73 + 77! de Chris, DL2RPN
Well...same old. Same old...I've given up on working these events. They all claim they will listen for the qrp, low power stations, but they don't. At times they were almost an s 9 and no takers, I would jump in there on CW and no response. And besides that, the TL9 pedition took almost 2 years to my qsl. it's not worth the frustration trying to compete with the big amps, big antennas when you're running low power, limited antennas.
Thank you for making the effort for such good outreach! I wasn't able to reach you, unfortunately, but thanks to your interviews, I've been able to keep up with what you were doing. Hope you had a great experience.
St. Paul Island was the last item on my bucket list. I'm ready for the big hamfest in the sky. Thanks, team!
I got them on three bands with 100 watts CW and wire antennas. In addition, I had to sneak in between the big guns in the Northeast who were MUCH closer to them than I was. So, they definitely were able to copy weaker signals on at least some bands. Perhaps some of the more modest stations who did not work them, especially the ones who were closer, were not calling where CY9C was listening. Sometimes the pileup was 5 kHz wide, but most of those stations seem to have seen a spot on the web, chosen an open frequency that was up from the spotted one, and started sending their callsign whether or not they could hear the DX, thinking a clear frequency is the key. This is a bad strategy! I have two cardinal rules for working DXpeditions with medium power and wire antennas: (1) The DX must be at least loud enough to modulate the AGC in my radio, and (2) I don't bother calling until I am pretty sure I know where the DX is listening. Once I know where the DX is listening, I generally work them after a call or two, even with 100 watts. Follow these two rules, and you will work most DXpeditions on at least some bands, even with low power and wire antennas.
Great effort, guys. I worked you on all HF bands but 10, as you are too close to me. Get some rest and see you in the next one!
