My brother is planning on taking all three exams next month. Provided he passes all three, what type call sign will he be assigned? And where in the sequence are currently assigned new Extra calls for region 8? (i.e. [A,N,K,W]?8??)

It's funny how Region 8 & 9 still issuing Group A callsigns when Region 4 ran out, over five years ago.

Matter of fact, all the CONUS call regions (1 thru 10) are still issuing Group A callsigns except, as you noted, Region 4.
Looks like 6-land will be the next region to exhaust their Group A allocation.

Thanks. Passed Extra but still don’t feel like I know very much.

What's funny about it? No surprise since almost 1/4 of the country is in the 4th call area. I have no idea how they divided up the call areas, which states were in each. Seems like the 1,2, & 3 areas should have been much large due to lower populations. Perhaps that is why so many vanity requests are for calls with 1, 2 in them from people who live in other areas.

Reminds me of a story. A friend from Europe once asked why we said something was funny when he did not find it at all humorous. Oh, we told him, "funny" means many things. In this case, unusual or even curious. Sorry if that was not clear.
