As the title says..bring back the old one..it was easy,no messing about.

    V2 is a big improvement over V1.
I just wish the QRZ staff would fix the bugs that have been pointed out to them, like not using the database to source the country and continent of the ham in the QSO.
For example, these confirmed QSOs have the country missing in both the displayed QSO information and the downloaded ADIF file.

If wasn't ready it shouldn't have been forced on us.

I agree that it shouldn't have been released before it was adequately tested. It would have also been useful to explain in great detail how it was designed to work. I think that the intention of V2 is very good, but bugs remain and I don't see that there is much drive to work out the bugs that have been revealed to exist.

The issue you are experiencing is a result of their callsign data being incomplete. I am investigating a fix for this exact problem as we speak.

This product was tested quite thoroughly by numerous hams. All appearances were that everything was good to go. As we've said before, nothing beats 100,000+ eyes, and that's what we got when we launched. Plenty of additional eyes, as well as different operating habits that identified a few shortfalls. MOST of which have already been resolved. We simply didn't catch everything, we are human.

There are numerous threads, FAQs, as well as a thorough user-guide. Maybe we should make a video to eliminate interpretation, and show it in action for the more visual people.

Jim, I've tried to have thick skin throughout this entire process, and I think I've done fairly well, but I have to say that I am a bit offended by this statement. My wife would argue that the last many months of very limited time with my family due to 12+ hour days, and few weekends where I don't end up at my desk for at least a few hours paints a very different picture. As far as software goes, it's me and Fred. That's it. We've been working our hind-ends off trying to resolve any and all issues, provide new features, and answer tens of thousands of tickets.

I wish you could shadow me for a day. I think you would find that the "drive to work out the bugs" has been going strongly and continues to this very moment.

We appreciate your continued patience and support.

Sorry, Alex, I didn't mean for my criticism to be a personal attack.
The callsign prefix is enough to ascertain what the country and DXCC number is. Just search a table containing the country and DXCC information and find the callsign prefix. I have a program that does just that, and it was not that difficult to implement.

  7. N0AMT

    N0AMT Ham Member QRZ Page

Presently callsign prefix search is already implemented and working. However our logic for populating a QSO record where DXCC is empty or zero is flawed, and I am working on solving that issue so that it will populate DXCC where empty through our population order: Logbook first, then callsign data, then callsign prefix.

    Jim,

Software engineering can be something of a black box from the user's perspective. For the past month, both Alex and I have been working on the programming, fixing bugs, adjusting features, answering user questions, and burning the midnight oil at an astounding rate.

Saying that "it should have been adequately tested" is easy. In a situation such as ours, it was impossible to test without throwing the full weight of the QRZ users at it. It was also deemed too difficult to support both logbooks at once. This was because people who used both logbooks would expect that anything done in one would be reflected in the other. This was never going to be possible due to the vast differences under the hood. Also, it's not possible to adequately test something that people won't use because, when we asked for volunteers, we mostly got crickets chirping.... Many folks did not want to participate in a test that wasn't going to save their data. So, the only solution then was to push V2 into production and put manpower behind it for near-real-time support.

We're fixing bugs every day. When you say that there "hasn't been much drive to work out the bugs", you must understand that your perspective is from afar. Some bugs have been internal, difficult and time consuming. Some, easier. Some of these may not have been the ones you were focusing on, however, it was necessary for us to prioritize We tend to focus first on those issues that affect everybody first.

This program is only moving in one direction: forward. V1 is never coming back, not ever. V1 had so many problems that they're hard to list, as it was riddled with errors, duplicates, and false confirmations. It was easy to use, and easy to misuse.

As for having made a prior detailed explanation of how things work in V2, it may or may not surprise you to know that your users generally don't read a lot of what we write, don't follow written directions, and ignore the FAQ's. I've spent many hours writing detailed explanations that subsequently went ignored. It's just the way it is, and we apologize for not making more documentation available to those like yourself who would gladly read it. My article on "The Differences between V1 and V2" was meant to address that issue, and I hope you found it helpful.

Just know that we're not ignoring you and that we're working very hard to make this a great logging program for our users.

Fred, I appreciate what you have done for amateur radio.
When you requested ADIF files from us to test V1 two years ago, I submitted an ADIF file to you.
I am glad that you have developed V2, and I found it easy to use.
I use eQSL and LOTW, so the concept of uploading an ADIF file that is then checked with submissions from other hams to check for matches was not new for me.
But from reading the posts on this forum I can tell that it is a new and strange concept to a lot of hams.
Maybe a video would have been helpful for them to see what the logging process is for V2.
Personally, the data in the QSO records is of more interest to me than the typical user.
When I download the logs and I find that some Continent data, Country data, or DXCC data is missing, I guess it bothers me more than someone who never downloads the logs.
When I see others condemn V2 and say they will never use it, it disappoints me, too.
I agree that V2 is much better than V1, and I hope that hams will have open minds about it and try to use it.
I am optimistic that the bugs will be resolved in the near future.

Well thanks for changing the poll I put up as well..I didn't put broken v1 or push fwd the new v2.
A democratic vote should be that, not changed by dictating!
My opinion on the log is as valid as anyone's,whether it's liked or not.I was giving others the option unlike QRZ are.
Please change the poll to its original wording or delete it as these are not my words.
not very happy how you have gone about this sir.
    kind regards.
