If you could have an HT in any band and mode, what would it be and why?
This can be hypothetical as well as plausible.

I would have an all mode 10m-1.2GHz mainly for repeater or DX QRP use.
And when I say all mode, I mean ALL of the modes!:D

Even better, replace Bluetooth 2.4GHz with 2200m

160 M kilowatt HT powered with long-life micro hearing aide type battery - preferably in British racing green with matching Ferrari 250 GT

Alinco DJ-G29T. That would give me two new bands.

I'd be happy with a handheld that could do HF at a minimum of 10 watts and upwards to 100 watts, AM FM SSB and CW... and bonus points a built in sound card for digital decoding and encoding.

I have owned one of these in the past. I, unfortunately, found little utility in it. Both the tx and rx were great quality, but there was NO 33cm activity in my grid, and I wished I didn't have to carry another radio for 2m and 70cm. It was a fun little radio. Currently, I have settled for a tribander with just as good tx and rx with worse audio output.

I'm not a big fan of any 'handheld'. It's a small box loaded with too many compromises. Batteries aren't strong enough to have any power output, rx suffers from poor filtering, antennas are a sad joke, the internal speaker mostly don't and the user interface generally sucks.
