You can leave the brick in the pack on the ground with the battery and maybe auto-tuner. Less to unpack. Just connect the antenna and control head (or mobile tablet), and operate ... even if no table is available, perhaps sitting on a park bench, or just a rock on some summit.
It's actually quite simple, DMR is NOT popular at all in Japan, If it's not popular where the big manufacturers are, why would they waste time developing it for their radios? I prefer using a Motorola DMR rig anyways, The audio just sounds SO much better than the Chinese stuff. Just wish they made a dual band DMR rig for the amateur market. I think Motorola could enter the Dual Band mobile and Dual band HT space and absolutely kill it bringing dual band rigs w/ DMR to market. It wouldn't be cheap, but it would be awesome.
Kenwood, a Japanese manufacturer, offers many DMR models, including handheld radios, mobile radios, and repeaters. However, these are devices intended for professional use. https://www.kenwood.de/comm/dmr/ 73, Peter - HB9PJT
Thank you, Timothy, it is much appreciated. Trying to hold off on buying anything another unit until I get upgraded haha.

Comparing a Xiegu to icom is kind of like comparing a Yugo to a Ferrari LOL The I C-7000 was a great rig, But seriously this is a mobile rig, icom already offers a satellite radio with UV/VU full duplex capability aka IC-9700
Does it allow monitoring two frequency's on two different bands? Why all the bs why not just release the instruction manual we could download and not have to guess what it will do?
Xiegu are surprisingly good for the money - I just wish they would pay a bit more attention to their firmware. I had an X6100 for a while and made some quite respectable QSOs on it barefoot. I subsequently swapped it for an IC-705, but bought a Xiegu GPA-100 PA to go with it - the combination work very nicely and the GPA-100 gives the impression of being decently designed and built. A welcome and long-past-due addition for Icom's HF mobile radio lineup. Looking forward to them becoming FCC approved and on the market.
Well, say what you want, the G-90 has a color screen, waterfall and a built in tuner that will tune a coat hangar on 80m! AND, you can buy them all day for LESS than $400. Plus, if you can't work 'em on 20w, 100w ain't gonna make a whole lot of difference, especially on the digital modes. And you wanna talk about portability! Having said that, I have a couple of IC-7000s and it too is a GREAT rig! Just my $.02 worth, FWIW. Y'all have fun and 73!
These Big 3 need to get it through their heads. No one entering the hobby or really under age 50 will be able to afford this...for a while. No Crossband and no 1.25m...and $1,500 I'd say minimum. Why even offer anything 50 MHz and over at that point? The Big 3 will continue to lose out on "sub par" Chinese companies if they keep offering garbage like this. A fancy USB port, a screen and GUI upgrade, SD Card Slot and Wifi and BT? Yeah, sub 1k models from others have these options and more...for years. Yet having an engineer modify the layout and write some code to open up the Crossband and 1.25m is not even an option? It offers dual watch but crossband i guess is a bridge to far for ICOM? Let's not forget it only puts out 50W on 2M/70-cm. Sure, it's a mobile rig but do not advertise 100 W when that only available for HF. What a joke. With External Sound Cards and sub $600 Rigs from China doing the same thing without dog whistle additions is exactly why these companies are going to start having a hard time real soon. It's just not justifiable anymore. Seriously, other than WiFi and BT and a shiny screen...what's the point in upgrading? It does the same damn thing and offers nothing in the way of actual performance or operating ability over it's previous model. Like fools though, hams will flock to it, sell a child all to flex on other stations about that sweet new ICOM...that at the end of the day, is just shiny
