Icom has a new 5W Dual Band entry level D-STAR HT on the way - the ID-50A! As more details including additional specs, release date and pricing become available, we will update our page. https://www.gigaparts.com/icom-id-50a-vhf-uhf-d-star-handheld-transceiver.html
Nice radio but: What they really need is replacement for the 7100 mobile. It would be nice for Icom to have some new radios announced at Dayton, but I'm not holding my breath.... ..
This thing ticks all my check boxes. USB-C charging is a huge big deal to me. Wide receive including FM broadcast and airband. Dual watch (although I'd have preferred true dual-VFO). Battery compatibility with the 705. If this thing is sanely priced, I am likely to buy one. The things that could break the deal for me are: no memory banks and short alpha-tags. I can't find any information yet about either. Hopefully Icom doesn't do anything so foolish.
Looks like the same screen-type used in the 5100. Hope that's not true. Even tho I have 2 5100s - I hate the screen...the 5100 also due for replacement.
My thoughts exactly... when I saw Ray Novak teasing that on IG, I did a double take since it looks just like my ID-51A.
$400 includes the 220 band? Or 1.2Ghz? Ugh.... I just woke up..... ICOM! Fix the 7100 issue, almost 1 year of no stock is more serious than chain supply issues. Or counter the Yaesu 991A issue. The 991A is maligned in a lot of ways, but it is available and it fills a hole. ICOM has some solid offerings like the 7610 and to a lesser degree the 9700. But, my friends, this issue is, over and over..... no innovation. Just rehashing the same basic engineering over and over when parts get scarce. Or pushing Japanese targeted items to the US. Lipstick on a pig is still a pig. 73 N9SSU - Billy
