Cute... three times over.
Just wonder what fraction of potential owners will use 1296?
If it could be offered without that capability and save, say $400, it might be ok.
Another observation - vhf contesters will need two rigs in order to cover 6 meters.
It's OK...I have it on good authority that those grapes hanging up there are actually SOUR!
Or without sideband or a display or... You can get a nice Baofeng for 30 bucks!
Now delivering? I don’t see any evidence that any have been shipped our received by hams who have ordered one. HRO is saying delivery in the second quarter.
Perhaps, for some like you. For V/UHF enthusiasts, IF it performs well, it is a welcome addition to a hole in that part of the spectrum for a decent performing radio w/o the "HF" garbage tacked on; rather, with HF and "V/UHF" (with mediocre performance at best) tacked up. You won't see any serious satellite or EME ops using a FT-597.
Don't hold your breath...
give them a few months, after the initial delivery newness wears thin, the price (like the 7300) will drop more than a couple hundred dollars.
It should bottom out at about $1300, maybe even less.
Yup, they’re prolly counting on all the suckers that will buy it now, then lower the price later
