Remember this is still just an entry level radio, but there's a lot of bang for the buck. That's what made the original 7300, the most popular ham radio transceiver ever.
Well... I love my IC-7300, however, I would have liked this new version but in order for me to purchase this new radio I would have to sell 3 beautiful radios IC-7300, IC-718 and Yaesu FT-900 in order to purchase this radio. I cannot justify to myself the worth of one radio for three radios that work perfectly. In addition for those that want to poo poo my decision, I had already worked around the the external display issue by using a SDR 1A to allow me to see the spectrum om my much larger monitor display and with a bonus that I can listen and see other signals outside of the frequencies that the IC-7300 can receive. So, I unfortunately, cannot justify the other features of this new radio to replace 3 HF radios.
My buddy loves his 7300, and as I was looking for a replacement for my Icom 735 I was leaning toward the 7300 already when the new model was announced. The fact that they kept the price down is a nice benefit, however if I already had a 7300 I don’t see any reason to buy the newer model. In my case it was just a matter of timing, when the MKII was announced I was in a position to wait and see.
When you express an opinion, then punctuate it with an insult, you're almost sure to get responses. So which is more important, the opinion or the insult?
