Well now you have ... good friend of mine religiously updates his 7300 and follows steps totally by the book. Update 141: radio bricked. Totally blank screen. No resets or anything works.

hmmm... anecdote.... let's hear from the user.

Not saying it did not or could not happen. I am sure it can and for some will. Just curious for 1st hand details.

Indeed, the friend should post this himself.

    Why Upgrade ?
I read about and saw U-tube about upgrading to V 1.4 but I see NO advantages for me to do that. My brand new IC7300 seems to do all I want to do so far.

My advice to anyone doing a firmware upgrade is to prepare ahead of time for a potential loss of commercial power in the middle, which could indeed brick the radio. Either run the radio from a fully charged battery, or connect the PS to the AC mains via a UPS. Otherwise it's like playing Russian Roulette.

And run the update on a laptop with a good battery.

Updates are like medical procedures. They are never totally without risk.

This is why I avoid elective procedures.

Wow, 141 updates on one radio? Is that a record for ICOM, or other company incompetence?
