Icom IC-707 CAT control?

    I know that it is possible to control the Icom IC-707 with a computer through the data port in the back. But, does anyone know if the entire Icom CI-V interface is entirely necessary? Could I get something like a USB to IC-707 "Programming Cable" that would do the same thing? The CI-V interface that the IC-707 manual advertises is pretty pricey, and I don't have the money nor do I need to be able to connect 5 Icom radios together.
