    I carry a tuned multiband dipole (band segments selected with spade connectors) when backpacking so I don't have to lug around a tuner. Less weight to carry and like you said, no "RF eater" involved.

    Nonsense.

    I haven't used coax at HF since i discovered balanced feed lines.

    But we'll never convince each other so I'm not going to bother.

    I totally agree with ya !! When i win the lotto, I will have two of the 705's , one in the shack and one in the Fusion. Love my Icoms.

    Nice presentation Sir. Can you tell me if the 705 will do 6 and 10 meter repeater frequency (offsets and tones INTO Memory?) Thanks Beforehand John.

    Julian - great posting, you often have most thoughtful and objective perspectives.
    I was thinking some of the same as Barry, above- One of the redeeming qualities of the FT-817/8 was their requirement of such a small current (250 mA squelched or 450 mA receving).
