No one's even excited at this prospect?

“Sometime this year” is what I’ve heard. It’s an interesting radio, Icom should sell a ton of them.

It needs more than 5w, and would be nice if it had a built-in ATU.

Depends on the price. And yeah, 10w and ATU.

I think its 5 watts on the battery pack and 10w on shore power. No ATU per the last video I saw of the Icom rep, I think he was at hamcation for the video.

April release is what I heard and believe that would correspond with Hamvention.

Fuel pump went out on my truck this week, $8600 to fix. My plans to buy the IC-705 are likely to be delayed.

When will it be available? You're asking here? Instead, ask Icom and note the pause between your question and their answer...

Seem like there’s an extra zero in that estimate, at least.

I wish. Fuel injectors, fuel rails, fuel lines, high pressure fuel pump (CP4), fuel lift pump (in fuel tank), filters all contaminated with metal shavings from the fuel pump. It's a diesel F350 6.7l, not a common problem but it happens.
