My ICOM 575A stopped working on upper sideband. No xmit output and the recever is dead quiet even with the squelch turned completely down. This is on both 6m and 10m. All other modes are working fine. Any ideas or do I need to brush up on my CW, hi hi?
Section 2 of the service manual provides lots of things to check -- have you tried following that yet?
I didn't have a service manual, just the instruction manual. I located the service manual online and now I have it. The procedures in section 2 may go beyond my test equipment inventory and technical expertise. I did notice that the procedures didn't seem to make any distinction between modes of operation. I think I'll nose around inside the radio a bit and see if anything obvious stands out. It's possible it could just be a faulty SB selector switch. Thanks for your reply. Probably not the switch, the LSB/USB indicator does change on the display.
My 575a has also failed, but on all modes, both Rx & Tx. In my case, I found some of the crappy small coax connectors on the boards had become desoldered. I haven't got around to putting it back together & testing, yet, as other things have intervened, but it certainly looks like it may be the problem. It may be a similar thing in your case, as those connectors are really pretty dire!
I bit the bullet and bought an FT-818. Once my signal path enters one of those black rectangle chunks of silicone I'm pretty much done.
