Check out my 10 dollar key, infinitely adjustable for tension and spacing. At 68 years old I was finding it difficult to gain the muscle memory needed to use a straight key accurately. Then I tried this method. Almost no learning curve.

Most older American-made straight keys were designed to be installed this way, flush with the surface your elbow was to be resting on.

I get what you are saying about Bencher. I bought a RJ-2 when I passed 5wpm in 95. (Still have it) It is the worst key for tipping over I have ever used. It is sure pretty but it sucks. A bunch if years ago I saved a Nye-Viking speed-x model 322-01 granted it does need to be mounted on something. But it is so smooth and nice to send CW on.

im starting to lighten up on the bencher so it doesnt tip as much. For as much as I use it, I'll stick with it until i make it to HRO to get a Vibroplex SK ...
