    This reminds me of an idea I had some time back, about making "Heathkits that never were". Since April 1 isn't so far away, consider this...

    Imagine getting a bunch of old Twoers and Sixers - the "Benton Harbor Lunch Boxes" - and completely disassembling them. Then, using only vintage technology, build a 75 or 160 meter AM rig on that "platform". Simple MOPA transmitter, single-conversion superhet receiver, dual-purpose audio system. With computer methods it should be easy to match the panel lettering and such. Even make up a manual in Heath style, marked "Preliminary".

    Build a couple and take to a hamfest/convention and say they were prototypes that never made it to market. Very rare, etc. See how many hams buy the story...
