WIRED Magazine--which is usually a liberal 'anti-greed' platform, has an excellent video on 5G that may interest some here.

I don't want fellow hams to underestimate the importance that HAMS have had in the telecom revolution, including 5G. For example, Dana Atchley (SK) W1CF was a founder of MACOM--which spun off QUALCOMM, a big player in 5G. For example, Ted Rappaport, N9NB was a pioneer in 5G . There are hundreds of other hams who have made this happen for the people of the US and the world.

That is what hams DO. Enabling us on Part 97 is what MAKES IT POSSIBLE to produce these other technologies.

Clearly-- we-- need spectrum to do what we do--but how much? That's the issue related to the NPRM. If we think ahead, we can save some of the 9cm band as a carve-out.

If we are silly and ascribe the whole process as GREED of the carriers in the free market reality of America, then we will play fully into the hands of total 9cm band loss.

THINK of how others position, and how the world sees US Part 97 licensees.

When we get greedy (demanding 'our spectrum' when we hardly use it as a service) or 'activist', we ruin our credibility and reputation, encouraging others to look at us a mere 'hobbyists'; users, not innovators. That is fatal to Part 97 as we know it, with implications over the next 5 years that go well beyond the 9cm band.

    MO. Yours may differ.

Great care needs to be exercised in filings by hams on the NPRM, addressing E-P-J and the value that Part 97 (presumably) brings to continued use of some of the 9cm band. Speaking with one voice, posing value, proffering solution(s) is what works. The responses of the NPRM should not be a case study for law students (in the future) on 'how not to respond to a NPRM'.

YOUR voice is ONLY important if it has something of value to others, in what and how it is said.

    Here's the video:

    Thanks John--

Its a shame that some of us, as hams, can't seem to look at 5G as a TRIUMPH of hams as our Part 97 mission (in part)-- rather than a greedy adversarial thief of 'our' spectrum.

What is the benefit of alienating the very people who may be trying to help?
